DeSantis honors U.S. sailors killed during Pensacola terror attack

Over the weekend, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) made an announcement to the servicemen that were killed during the terrorist attack at the Pensacola Naval Air Station last year.

“One year ago, three great American sailors were killed in an act of terrorism at” the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, he informed on Twitter, adding that “in their honor, I’ve proclaimed December 6^th as Naval Air Station Pensacola Remembrance Day in Florida.”

He concluded by asserting that Americans should “never forget their selfless sacrifice.”

Moreover, the Naval Aviation Schools Command also held a memorial service for the fallen sailors. There was a wreath-laying, and there were also Purple Heart ceremonies for each of the sailors.

Cmdr. Michael Lofgren, NASC’s executive officer who spoke at the ceremonies, commented that “in these times the war zone is no longer limited to battlefields, it all too often finds its way to bastions where it is least expected,” adding that. “these heroes, selflessly and tirelessly preparing for a battlefield, suddenly and unexpectedly found themselves in a war zone.”

The terrorist attack took place last year, and Mohammed Alshamrani, a Saudi naval student and the perpetrator of the attack was ultimately killed a responding deputy.
