Huge Upset! Maria Elvira Salazar Defeats Donna Shalala

After turning Florida’s 27^th Congressional District blue in 2016, Florida Rep. Donna Shalala (D) celebrated her victory over Maria Elvira Salazar (R). In turn, Shalala rallied against Venezuela and continuously criticized President Donald Trump (R), arguing that he had failed the people of her district and Venezuelans as a whole.

Two years later, in a rematch with her 2018 Republican opponent, Florida’s 27^th Congressional District has now changed again as Maria Elvira Salazar has defeated Florida Rep. Donna Shalala in what many are considering one of a number of upsets.

The theme for a number of Republicans in the sunshine state was to warn of a rise in socialist sympathizers in the Democratic party, and it seems that may have driven voters in large numbers to come out and vote the freshman lawmaker out.

In a statement, Emma Vaughn, the Trump Victory Spokesperson, commented that “Donna Shalala’s decision to move the University of Miami’s football program out of the Orange Bowl stadium continues to haunt her.”

Vaughn concluded that “District 27 turned its back on her, the way she turned her back on the Orange Bowl.”
