Rubio Unloads on China's Threat to Democracy

Last week, Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) made a public announcement that the Winter Olympics should not be held in Beijing, China because of the current Uyghur genocide taking place in the country. Now, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) has once again joined the former Governor of Florida in slamming the Communist Party of China by criticizing the Vatican for its continued partnership with the communist country.

Taking to Twitter to air his grievance with the partnership, Senator Rubio expressed that he was “saddened that the #Vatican renewed its deal on Bishop appointments w/ the Chinese gov’t, which hurts the Catholic & Protestant communities in China from freely practicing their faith.”

He warned that “the Church should not accept the approval of Bishops by an atheist & communist regime.”

The comments come after it was announced that the Vatican announced it was extending an agreement made with Beijing over appointments of Bishops in China, which comes weeks after the U.S. Secretary of State traveled to the Vatican to oppose the agreement.

Moreover, the Florida lawmaker, in an email directed to supporters, further unloaded on the risk that China poses on democracy and the working relationship between the United States and Hong Kong, explaining that “the United States has serious economic and national security interests in Hong Kong that are at serious risk if they are sucked in and destroyed by China’s communist regime.”

Citing Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’ comments on the matter, Ross warned that “the risk that sensitivity U.S. technology will be diverted to the People’s Liberation Army or Ministry of State Security has increased.”

In moving forward, Rubio detailed that “Hong Kong is currently an oasis of commerce in Asia and if the Chinese government has their way, they’ll drain that oasis and fill it with their oppressive communist regime.”
