Florida Rep. Vern Buchanan (R) announced today that his congressional district has received more federal healthcare aid than 95 percent of the districts in the United States.
His district includes Manatee, Sarasota and Hillsborough counties. In addition, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, it was 19 on the list of 435 congressional districts that have received healthcare aid under the Provider Relief Fund that was passed by Congress.
In a statement, Rep. Buchanan said that he is “pleased to see health care providers in our area receiving assistance from the bill I supported in March.”
He added that “our hospitals, doctors and nurses are doing heroic work to keep people safe and they deserve all the support we can give them.”
The aid received is meant to cover health-care related expenses or any lost revenue that is attributable to COVID-19, and it is also meant to ensure uninsured Americans can get the proper testing and treatment that is required. Moreover, some of the money is also used to keep hospitals open that have seen a loss in revenue in recent months after elective procedures were canceled.
The money provided to health providers is a grant, and it does not need to be repaid.
