Democrats call DeSantis "Trump's Mini-Me" and "incompetent"

Florida Democrats are on offense these days, having weaponized the COVID-19 pandemic for political gain by questioning the leadership and capabilities of both President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R).

It's fair game.

During a video press conference with reporters Monday morning, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo, Rep, Fentice Driskell, Dr. Bernard Ashby, Dr. Kayser Enneking, and Reps. Darren Soto and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell took Trump and DeSantis to task over what they call a “continuously chaotic approach” to dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic

As usual, the political gloves when it came down to referencing about Trump, his allies, and their leadership skills.

Chairwoman Terrie Rizzo fired the first salvo at DeSantis, referring to him as President Trump’s “Mini-Me.”

Rizzo took issue with the “science-denying” Trump, saying that his response to the pandemic has been nothing less than “chaotic,” and DeSantis has been “following his lead every step of the way.”

The zingers kept flying.

Rep. Soto referred to Trump as the “Conspirator-in-Chief” who was peddling “science-denying conspiracy theories.”

“The keys to reopening our economy are testing and monitoring, and in the long run we will return to normal once we have a vaccine, and we know this because medical professionals and specialists have told us this time and time again,” said Rep. Darren Soto “That’s why it boggles the mind to know that no doctor was put on Governor DeSantis’ reopening committee. The GOP has shunned science and experts for years and now there couldn’t be a worse time to have science-denying conspiracy theories at the helm which leads me to the Conspirator-in-Chief.”

Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell kept up her one woman campaign of denouncing Republican leadership, calling both the Trump and DeSantis administration incompetent.

“Obviously, the incompetence has come out of the White House has been mirrored by the incompetence that we have seen from the governor’s office,” said Mucarsell-Powell

Mucarsel-Powell asked why DeSantis had not “put together a task force” that would be solely focused on fixing the “broken unemployment system” in the state.

“Why is the governor putting together a task force of special interests and business groups instead of consulting with health experts to understand what we need to do to put a plan together to not only help Floridians in pain at this moment, but a plan that is based on science, data, and facts so that we can slowly get people back to work,” said Mucarsel-Powell

Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D) places the blame on both political parties and their leaders.
