Mucarsel-Powell critical of Trump's Budget Due to EPA Cuts

This week, it was announced that President Trump had proposed a $4.8 trillion budget that received both praise and criticism.

In the state of Florida, which he won in the 2016 presidential election, Democratic leadership has slammed the president concerning the budget through arguments saying that the president is slashing EPA funding and environmental programs that place American citizens in serious health risks.

One voice that has heavily criticized the president is Florida Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D), who released a statement on the proposed budget.

In her statement, Mucarsel-Powell expressed that “this budget proposal shows just how little regard President Trump has for South Florida’s workers, middle-class families, and environments.”

She added that “the president’s latest budget continues his ruthless attacks on health care by making drastic cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and Social Security,” noting that “it makes reckless cuts to public education and affordable housing programs, which help families in our district move up the economic ladder.”

Moreover, the freshman lawmaker detailed that “while the president’s budget proposal nearly fully funds our bipartisan Florida delegation request for $250 million for the Everglades Restoration, his undermining of the Environmental Protection Agency puts South Florida’s drinking water and environment at risk.”

So, the congresswoman argued that, in response, she “will continue advocating for full funding for the Everglades restoration and stronger measures to ensure Floridians have clean drinking water and pristine ecosystems.”
