Rep.Margaret Good received a political blow today as her biggest donor has shifted support while also shifting finances.

Hugh Culverhouse, considered the “major financial force” behind Margaret Good announced that he was switching his support and donations to a smiling Florida Rep. Vern Buchanan in the heated race for Florida’s 16thcongressional district.

Culverhouse is an attorney, businessman and landowner who criticized Good, saying that she “hasn’t paid her dues.”

He is noted as “one of Southwest Florida’s most influential rainmakers” in the political arena, and Buchanan championed Hugh’s backing. Buchanan expresses that he was “honored to have Hugh’s support” and that Culverhouse’s “passion, dedication and commitment to improving the state and region” will be effective in the upcoming election.

The move comes at a time when many see the 2020 election as a mandate on President Trump and Republicans in office. Seeing that Culverhouse shifted support from a Democrat to a Republican during a contentious political era, Republicans will be taking this as a victory that they will work to translate into President Trump’s reelection while also gaining the House.
