Biden Finds no "Legal Basis" to Testify

Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) has been on the campaign trail, talking to voters and trying to gain their support in his bid for the White House.

However, he has also been confronting mounting discussion regarding his son, Hunter Biden, and having to testify in front of a committee regarding Hunter’s time on the board of Burisma.

On Friday, Vice President Biden argued that he would not comply with a subpoena to testify in a Senate trial, and he further explained that he wouldn’t do so because testifying in front of the Senate would draw attention away from President Trump and the allegations against him.

When speaking to Carol Hunter, the Des Moines Register Executive Editor, Biden questioned, “what are you going to cover?”

He added, “You guys are going to cover for three weeks anything that I said,” saying that this would cause Trump “to get away” with the allegations thrown against the President.

Over the weekend, the Vice President seems to have retracted his thoughts, specifying that there is no “legal basis” for the Senate to pursue his testimony. But, if the Senate should seek his testimony, Biden would follow “any subpoena that was sent” to him.

He took to twitter to “clarify” his thoughts shared with Carol Hunter after receiving criticism.

He explained that “in my 40 years in public life, I have always complied with a lawful order and in my eight years as VP, my office – unlike Donald Trump and Mike Pence – cooperated with legitimate congressional oversight requests.”

He concluded by asserting that “this impeachment is about Trump’s conduct, not mine.”
