Latest Florida polls could show momentum for Trump

Share

Going into the House impeachment inquiry hearings, the latest head-to-head Florida polls between the top Democratic presidential candidates and President Donald Trump had the president leading all of the candidates, but trailing vice president Joe Biden by two points.

Depending on how you look at it, the president could be in good shape going into 2020, or it could appear that his reelection chances have greatly diminished.

With the last poll commissioned by The New York Times/Siena in mid-October, it will be interesting to see how voters across the political spectrum now see the contest for president after the first two weeks of the impeachment hearings.

The House Judiciary Committee will also hold hearings, but during those proceedings, Republicans and the Trump administration will have more leverage to mount a counter-offensive, or at the very least, defend their position.

Taking into consideration the latest Quinnipiac poll that shows Independent voters reconsidering their position of impeaching the president (most don’t), and the fact that House Democrats have not yet been able to make a clear case for impeachment, momentum appears to be swinging in favor of the president going into the presidential election year.

But like Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) stated, these early polls may not make much of a difference seeing a Democratic presidential nominee has not been chosen yet.

“I don’t know what you could base that on when we don’t have a Democratic nominee,” said Wasserman Schultz “In my experience having chaired my party for almost 6 years, polling around now doesn’t mean very much.”

Another interesting point to make is that in 2016, Trump held a campaign rally at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. The event probably filled half of the arena, but at his latest rally last week, at the very same venue, 20,000+ of the president’s supports packed the BB&T center.

A sign of the times in ultra-liberal Broward County, Florida?
