Ukraine planned Biden investigation before Trump call

The latest political controversy that has reignited impeachment conversations involves Ukraine, President Donald Trump and Democratic President Candidate Joe Biden along with his son Hunter Biden.

However, an unearthed document shows that Ukrainian officials had opened a new probe into the firm with ties to Hunter Biden, which took place months before the telephone call between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s leader.

John Solomon, an investigative reporter, appeared on Fox News with Sean Hannity and discussed the investigation, explaining that the United States knew that Ukraine was looking into activities at Burisma Holdings, which is the energy company that employed Hunter Biden as a member of its board of directors.

Solomon added that “The U.S. government had open-source intelligence and was aware as early as February of 2019 that the Ukrainian government was planning to reopen the Burisma Investigation.”

As well, he stated that “this is long before the president ever imagined having a call with President Zelensky.”

At the time, Petro Poroshenko was still the president of Ukraine.

In recent weeks, the President has received sharp criticism from Democrats who have launched an impeachment effort. Democrats argue that President Trump threatened to withhold foreign aid to Ukraine if its new president did not pursue an investigation into Burisma Holdings and Hunter Biden’s involvement.

Solomon further noted that NABU, which is an FBI-like anti-corruption agency in Ukraine, had asked for the probe into Burisma Holdings and Mykola Zlochevsky, the owner, to be reopened earlier this year.

With the new probe, a “Notice of Suspicion” was filed, alleging that there were “illicit funds” running through the firm.

As the election season continues, President Trump has doubled down on his criticism of Vice President Joe Biden, and Democrats continue to pressure for impeachment.

However, Solomon notes that this “is a significant change in the timeline,” and it also calls into question what will happen moving forward.
