After touring the northern Bahamas with Senator Marco Rubio (R) and Gov. Ron DeSantis, days after Hurricane Dorian made landfall, U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R) told reporters on Friday that the U.S. needed to “stop funding that are our enemies” and allocate those dollars to hurricane relief for our “good friends.”
“We can stop funding people that are our enemies like Russia and China and places like that.” said Scott “Spend money on people who are good friend of ours.”
Scott told The Floridian that he has already spoken to the White House about cutting off aid to “enemies” of the U.S., adding that the Peace Corps incredulously “spends 4 million bucks a year in China” and questioned why that was still the case.
When we asked Scott to specifically name all the countries the U.S. should cut aide off to, Scott quickly rattled off “China, Russia, Iran, Syria, and Cuba?
According to Scott and Rubio, relief efforts will continue to be very difficult considering the now-changed topography of The Bahamas.
