Three Florida Republicans named to GOP Young Guns program

While Democrats are trying to figure out who they will nominate to challenge President Trump in the 2020 presidential election, both sides appear to have vulnerabilities in key contested congressional races.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has just put out its first group of congressional candidates they deemed to be “on the radar” for their Young Guns programs, and three Florida congressional candidates made the cut.

As always, Florida could very well decide the overall election, as three Republican- targeted races will once again be at the forefront of the election cycle.

Amanda Makki, Irina Vilarino (pictured), and Maria Elvira Salazar have all made the cut, and have been listed in the Young Guns program.

Makki is in a contested Republican primary race, whose winner will face of with none other than Rep. Charlie Crist (D).

Former News Anchor Maria Elvira Salazar recently decided to run again for the Republican nomination to challenge Rep. Donna Shalala (D).

Finally, Irina Villarino, the Cuban immigrant and restauranteur, is running to challenge “Green New Deal” and Ocasio-Cortez ally, Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D).

All three of these races are considered competitive, especially Vilarino’s race, as Mucarsel-Powell narrowly won her 2018 midterm contest by less than 2 percentage points.

“It’s clear the 2020 election will be a choice between two futures: a future of more freedom or government control,” said Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy. “The new socialist Democrats are embracing policies that are in direct conflict with the needs and priorities of the American people: more taxes, more spending, more government, and less freedom. Simply put, this is theft.”
