Much like the U.S. has done, Israel has decided to impose its immigration right to allow, or prevent, whoever they wanted from entering the country.
Israel has taken the recommendation of President Donald Trump and has blocked Reps. Ilhan Omar (D) and Rashida Tlaib (D) from entering the country.
Israeli officials were said to have been on the fence as to whether to allow Tlaib and Omar to enter the country.
The planned trip was not touristic or official in nature, rather hyper-partisan, as Omar and Tlaib were visiting to help support the anti-Israel BDS movement.
Why would Israel allow these two congresswomen to support such a movement from their very land?
Trump tweeted a scathing rebuke of Tlaib and Omar, saying that they hated Israel and “all Jewish people,” calling the freshman Muslim congresswomen as “a disgrace.”
"It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit," Trump tweeted. "They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!"
Apparently, Israeli Interior Minister Arye Deri had already made up his mind to block the two pro-Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement U.S. legislators, so any other discussions about blocking them or not were simple lip service.
Neither Omar or Tlaib has commented about the Israeli government’s decision to block their entrance into that country.
Now the anti-Israel movement is piling on Israel for blocking members of “The Squad.”
One member of “The Squad,” Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D) called Israel’s decision “bigoted.”
2020 Democratic presidential candidates are sounding off, blaming Trump for Israel’s sole decision, and trying to shame the Israelis for blocking Omar and Tlaib.
“President Trump, you show great weakness every single day—when you attack women of color, when you degrade the office of the president, and when you ask our allies to stoop to your level.”- Robert “Beto” O’Rourke
“Banning Congresswomen Omar and Tlaib from entering Israel and Palestine is a sign of enormous disrespect to these elected leaders, to the United States Congress, and to the principles of democracy. The Israeli government should reverse this decision and allow them in.”-Sen. Bernie Sanders
Israel doesn’t advance its case as a tolerant democracy or unwavering US ally by barring elected members of Congress from visiting because of their political views. This would be a shameful, unprecedented move. I urge Israel’s government to allow @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlabi entry.” -Tweeted Sen.Elizabeth Warren
