Over the weekend, Michigan rep. Justin Amash (R) became the first Republican to join Democrats in calling for the impeachment process to begin against President Trump.
He released a strong of tweets aimed at the President and at Attorney General William Barr, stating that “Mueller’s report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meets the threshold of impeachment.”
In addition, Amash also described that “Mueller’s report identifies multiple examples of conduct satisfying all the elements of obstruction of justice, and undoubtedly any person who is not the president of the United States would be indicted based on such evidence.”
In response to Amash’s comments, President Trump took to twitter to share his thoughts on Amash.
On Twitter, President Trump expressed that he was “never a fan of Justin Amash,” who he believes is “a total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy.”
The President further added that if Amash “actually read the biased Mueller report, “composed” by 18 Angry Dems who hated Trump… he would see that it was nevertheless strong on NO COLLUSION and, ultimately, NO OBSTRUCTION.”
Finally, the President questioned, “how do you Obstruct when there is no crime and, in fact, the crimes were committed by the other side?”
President Trump then asserted that “Justin is a loser who sadly plays right into our opponents [sic] hands!”
Echoing in the President’s remarks, Ronna Romney, the Republican National Committee Chairwoman, denounced Amash, commenting that “it’s sad to see Congressman Amash parroting the Democrats’ talking points on Russia. The only people still fixated on the Russia collusion hoax are political foes of President Trump hoping to defeat him in 2020 by any desperate means possible.”
Rep. Amash has not ruled out the idea of running against President Trump on the Libertarian ticket.
