Charlie Crist calls for Attorney General Barr to resign

Share

In a statement, Rep. Charlie Crist (D) slammed Attorney General William Barr, who testified yesterday before a U.S. Senate Committee on his handling of the Mueller report.

In the statement, Crist assured that “the American people deserve the truth,” and the American people are not receiving it because the Attorney General cannot be trusted.

Since the release of the Mueller report, Democrats have heavily criticized not only Barr, but also Special Counsel Robert Mueller because the report indicated that there would not be any further indictments.

The report also found that the Trump campaign had not colluded with Russia to ensure a Trump victory in the 2016 Presidential election.

Democrats have even called for Robert Mueller to testify before a Committee.

In turn, Crist calls Barr a liar, noting that he had asked Barr “directly if any members of the Special Counsel’s team expressed concerns to him about the portrayal of the investigation in the brief summary he released to the public.”

Barr answered that Mueller’s team hadn’t, but Crist goes on to explain that “now, news reports out…indicate that Special Counsel Mueller did in fact express concern” and that Mueller believed the memo released had created “public confusion.”

As a result, citing that Barr lied to him, “but more importantly he lied to you, the American people,” Crist called “for Attorney General Barr to resign.”

Crist explained that “we are supposed to trust those with the power of upholding the laws of our nation, and it’s sad to see this confidence broken.”

However, when testifying before the Senate Committee, Barr noted that he had provided Mueller with an opportunity to read the 4-page memo before it was released, but Barr said that Mueller had declined to read it.

Still, Rep. Christ maintains that “there must be consequences for his actions, but only if we stand together to hold AG Barr accountable.”
