This week, Roger Stone, political advisor and friend of President Donald Trump, took to social media to slam the former first lady, Barbara Bush, for her remarks about him.
He called the former first lady “mean spirited, self important, nasty and entitled,” and Stone added he now understood “why Nancy Reagan hated her so much.”
In a book published this month about the former first lady, Barbara Bush also mentioned President Trump and the fact that she didn’t like him, which is well publicized considering the feud that President Trump and Jeb Bush carried out through the 2016 Presidential election cycle.
While running his campaign, President Trump was not only critical of Jeb Bush, but he was also critical of President George W. Bush.
The President would often refer to Jeb Bush as “low energy Jeb,” and this quickly affected Jeb’s campaign as Jeb continued to sink in the polls until he eventually left the race.
In sharing his thoughts on Barbara Bush’s feelings towards him, President Trump dismissed the comments and said he’s not surprised by them.
In an interview with the Washington Times, President Trump commented that he has “heard that she was nasty to me, but she should be. Look at what I did to her sons.”
In the book, Barbara Bush was critical of President Trump and accused him of worsening her chronic pulmonary disease and congestive heart failure. Furthermore, she also mentioned that she would “probably say no” if she was asked if she still considered herself a Republican.
The comments come at a time when President Trump has received criticism over still directing words at Senator John McCain who passed away at the end of last year.
Both Republicans and Democrats rose to the defense of Senator McCain and called for the President to not continue with the feud.
