McCain allegedly asked Russia for campaign money

With Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, having been arrested last week outside of the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, it was expected that  information garnered by the group would be released.

Today, Wikileaks released a massive dump of information ranging on a wide variety of topics, but one document seems to paint a national hero in a different light.

Arizona Senator John McCain, who passed away at the end of last year, was one of President Trump’s sharpest critics and was said to be one of the leading senators that pushed the dossier that put the Mueller investigation in motion.

President Trump has faced heavy criticism for slamming McCain, which caused lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to come to the veteran’s defense.

However, Wikileaks today released a document from the Russian Federation that alleges that McCain, during his 2008 Presidential campaign, had asked Russia for campaign funding.

In the letter, dated October 20^th, 2008, the Russian Federation writes that “we have received a letter from Senator John McCain requesting financial contribution to his Presidential campaign.”

Furthermore, the Federation asserts that “In this connection we would like to reiterate that Russian officials, the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations or the Russian Government do not finance political activity in foreign countries.”

This document comes at a time when the Mueller investigation has culminated and found that there was no Russia collusion in the 2016 Presidential election that saw President Donald Trump defeating Democratic candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The conclusion of the Mueller investigation has incited skepticism among Democrats who still maintain that President Trump colluded with Russia in order to win the election. As the 2020 Presidential election approaches, this new development raises more questions concerning a Senator that was beloved by many and who vehemently pushed for the Trump dossier that allegedly contained damning information about Trump and Russia.
