House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushing to restore the DREAM ACT, and most Democrat members in the Florida delegation are also throwing their support behind the bill.

This week, California Democrat Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard introduced the “Dream and Promise Act,” which is set to allow DREAMers to stay and offer paths to citizenship.

On Tuesday, after Roybal-Allard was able to get more than 200 cosponsors for the bill, Speaker Pelosi noted that “Democrats are proud to stand…with Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status folks and Deferred Enforced Departure holders as we take an historic to protect patriotic men and women who, in being here, in the wisdom of Ronald Reagan, make America more American.”

She explained that a measure like this is important for Democrats to rally behind because it’s the type of measure Americans want them to pass since elected a Democrat majority in last year’s midterm elections.

So, Speaker Pelosi asserted that the Democrat majority “will advance progress for all Americans and uphold our values of liberty, justice and opportunity.”

Florida Democrat Darren Soto praised the bill, saying that “DREAMers, TPS and DED holders are Americans in every sense of the word, in every way that counts.” Soto further explained that “there’s an estimated 100,000 DREAMers in Florida alone.” In addition, he explained that “Democrats are taking decisive actions to protect these proud Americans from the Trump administration’s callous attempts to strip away their critical status, so they can continue strengthening our nation.”

Speaker Pelosi also asserted that once Democrats “pass this bill, we will fight for a comprehensive fix to our broken immigration system which embraces the contribution of all our newcomers.” She added that “protecting DREAMers and TPS and DED Americans is about honoring and respecting the family that is at the heart of our faith and the heart of who we are as Americans.”
