The buzz (subtle) going around Tallahassee is that Gov Ron DeSantis is mulling over a decision to commute the prison sentence of “White Boy Rick,” or prisoner Richard Wershe Jr.
We all know the Wershe’s story.
The former teen FBI informant served 30 years in federal prison for possession and storing of cocaine, later extradited to Florida to serve a sentence for “racketeering based on his involvement in a car theft ring that included his sister,” according to POLITICO.
DeSantis the Merciful?
Wershe is set to be paroled in October 2020, but his time in Florida’s prison system could be shorter than he thinks.
It’s said that DeSantis and the state’s clemency board could take up Wershe’s case as early as this week, possibly setting the man free.
"I do believe in redemption and I think that does play a role. There are powers that I'm not going to be scared to use, but they just need to be used under the appropriate circumstances."-Gov.Ron DeSantis
