DeSantis Issues Order Acknowledging Snipes' Resignation

Governor DeSantis has enacted a major executive order, which suspends Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher, effective immediately. The order was recommended by Secretary of State Michael Ertel.

In addition, Governor DeSantis also issued a second executive order that officially acknowledges the resignation of former Broward County Supervisor of Elections Dr. Brenda Snipes, effective January 4^th, 2019, which brings to a close the long battle she was involved in with now Senator Scott after she was suspended.

In a statement, Governor DeSantis informed, “today, we turn our attention to the need to restore faith in our elections processes here in Florida. During the 2018 General Election, Florida had 65 out of 67 counties that ran good elections. Supervisor Bucher demonstrated she was unable to comply with the laws of our state and her duties as the Supervisor of Elections and failed to accurately report information related to the number of ballots that had been cast. For these reasons, I am suspending Susan Bucher as Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections, effective immediately. It is time to turn the page in Palm Beach County to ensure accountability and transparency from our elections officials.”

Governor DeSantis also announced two new appointments as Supervisor of Elections in the state of Florida. One is Afghanistan Veteran Chris Anderson as the new Seminole County Supervisor of Elections, and Wendy Sartory Link will be Susan Bucher’s replacement in Palm Beach County.

At the end of last year, Pete Antonacci was chosen by then-Governor Rick Scott to replace Dr. Brenda Snipes, but Antonacci has expressed that he will not seek reelection in the upcoming 2020 elections. Dr. Brenda Snipes had turned in a resignation letter before she was suspended, and as a result Dr. Snipes sued Governor Rick Scott and imitated a battle in order to claim her job back.
