DCCC Advertisements Blast GOP Congress Members

Share

As the 2020 presidential election season fast approaches, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is now in full effect, backing any potential candidates from their party that might be looking to launch a congressional bid.

Although the 2018 midterm elections did not result the way the party expected, they’re hoping to have a more successful 2020 cycle by launching several advertisements that will attack 25 Republican members of the House, blaming them for the partial government shutdown. Having taken control of the House in the 2018 elections, Democrats are looking to strengthen their numbers in the upcoming election term.

At the end of last week, the DCCC commented on the advertisement effort, saying that “In its first digital ad campaign of the cycle, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee today announced digital ads hitting 25 vulnerable House Republicans who have consistently refused to put our national security before their own partisan agenda by voting against reopening the government. This ad campaign, backed by a significant digital ad buy, will begin on Friday, when members of the Coast Guard, Border Patrol, TSA, and federal law enforcement will miss their second paycheck in a row.”

Cole Leiter, a spokesman for the DCCC, also slammed the GOP, saying that “when you work hard to keep our country safe, you should receive your paycheck, period.”

He further explained that “workers who risk their lives everyday are about to miss another paycheck as Republicans in Washington continue to play games with the lives of hardworking Americans, and their families’ livelihoods and financial security. Republicans’ recklessness threatens our national security, and it’s critical that voters know exactly who is putting Americans’ lives at risk in pursuit of a wasteful and deeply unpopular partisan agenda.”

Since then, both sides of the aisle have agreed to reopen the government for 3 weeks but a deal must be made for funding of the wall.

In response to the attack ads, Camille Gallo, a spokeswoman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, blasted freshmen Democratic congresswomen Debbie Mucarsel Powell and Donna Shalala for posing with actor Danny Glover in an event. Gallo cited Glover's support for both the Maduro regime and Castro regime, adding that it's "Definitely not a good look for Shalala and Mucarsel-Powell who represent thousands of Cuban and Venezuelan exiles who have suffered under these violent regimes.”

Congresswomen Mucarsel Powell and Shalala flipped their respective districts that were previously held by Republicans.
