“He was a rock star yesterday, he’s a rock star today, and he will be a rock star in the future,” said Tom Perez, chair of the Democratic National Committee, about former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum.
Perez was introducing Gillum at a DNC finance meeting in Washington when he made the “rock star” remark, reported the POLITICO.
Even though he lost to Governor-elect Ron DeSantis (R) in the 2018 midterm elections, Gillum is a rising star in the Democratic Party, and a strong contender for his party’s presidential nomination.
Gillum is mulling over his options, as are other top name, potential Democratic presidential candidates like Texas’ Beto O’Rourke, as well as some prominent U.S. Senators like Cory Booker and Kamala Harris.
Gillum was able to energize and appeal to young voters in Florida, and if he continues pushing his Bernie Sanders-like agenda, Gillum could be in position to take the torch from the senior progressive senator from Vermont.
Expect to hear more from Gillum in the coming months. He’s appears to just be getting started.
