Nelson takes jab at Republicans over climate change

Share

After narrowly losing his re-election bid to Florida Governor Rick Scott in the 2018 mid-term elections, and with less than a month left in his political career, Sen. Bill Nelson (R) appears to be going out with a bit of a fight.

Over the past several years, Nelson has been focused on preserving the environment, particularly the Everglades restoration efforts in Florida.

Because the climate change discussion is once again beginning to ramp up, Nelson took to the Senate floor to address his concerns and recommendations, not to mention take a bit of a swipe at President Trump and Republicans.

"For the good of future generations, take climate change seriously, listen to the experts, and come together to work on solutions. And instead of saying “I’m not a scientist,” listen to the scientists. Don’t try to sensor their warnings or hide from the truth."

Several top Republicans, including Florida Senator Marco Rubio (pictured with Nelson) and Senator-elect Rick Scott, have stated that they were not scientist when asked certain questions on climate change.,” I’m not a scientist” when asked certain climate change questions.

Senator-elect Rick Scott will officially take over for Nelson on January 8, 2019, his new swearing in date.
