Democrats are hoping that the recounts in Florida’s U.S. Senate and Agriculture Commissioners races will reverse Republican vote totals in those respective races.
Veteran Senator Bill Nelson (D) (pictured with Senator Rubio) immediately announced that his team was pushing for a recount, prompting Scott to emphatically state that race was over, and that Nelson was needed to give it a rest.
Scott (R) leads Nelson (D) by .26 percent, or 21,899 votes in the senate race, and Matt Caldwell (R) leads Nikki Fried (D) by .06 percent, or 4,109 votes, in the agriculture commissioner race.
Because the automatic threshold for a statewide recount is .5, these two races were expecting the scrutiny, but the other big statewide race this election cycle, the governor’s contest between Democrat Andrew Gillum and Republican Ron DeSantis, wasn’t.
The DeSantis/Gillum race ended with DeSantis winning by .52 percent, or 42,938 votes.
Could that change?
Outside of the Caldwell/Fried race, it will be very difficult for Democrats to make up that many votes.
