Florida congressional incumbents survive, except for two

Share

As expected, most, if not all congressional incumbents won their respective seats when the dust finally settled on election night.

The 2018 midterm election was billed as a referendum against President Donald Trump, but in the end, the Democratic landslide victory never happened.

At the end of the night, Democrats controlled the U.S. House of Representatives and Republicans kept the U.S. Senate (gained seats).

So, it wasn’t a tidal wave win, a win none the less for Democrats.

The biggest surprise and upset was that of Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R), who lost his Democratic-leaning congressional seat to Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in Miami.

The second biggest defeat of the night was that of Senator Bill Nelson. Nelson narrowly lost to Florida Governor Rick Scott in one of the costliest and senate races of the election cycle.

Republicans also retained control of the governor’s mansion and the entire cabinet, which is vitally important for the 2020 presidential election.

Here are Florida’s incumbent congressional winners:

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R)

Rep. Neal Dunn (R)
