David Jolly Abandons Republican Party and Votes for Gillum

Former Congressman David Jolly, who recently announced that he left the Republican party, has announced that he voted for Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum to become Florida’s next Governor.

In a statement released by the Mayor’s campaign team, Congressman Jolly explains that he’s “turned in my ballot. I voted for Andrew Gillum. The reason is simple: it's because I've served with Ron DeSantis.”

With election day right around the corner, Mayor Gillum is embarking on a tour that will have three stops in South Florida.

He will be campaigning alongside Democratic Representative Ted Deutch and Democratic Florida Agriculture Commissioner candidate Nikki Fried.

The tour comes right as a new CNN polls shows that Gillum and Senator Bill Nelson have lost traction in their respective races.

In addition, one of the stops includes West Palm Beach, which will take place at Gaines Park for a 7 p.m. rally alongside local elected leaders, candidates and state Senator Bobby Powell. The night will conclude with a “Bring It Home” block party concert to rally up support.

Congressman Jolly has not announced whether or not he will be campaigning alongside the Tallahassee Mayor or if he will be independently campaigning on his behalf.

Jolly announced on the Bill Maher show that he had abandoned the Republican Party and had registered as an independent. In addition, since President Trump took office, Jolly has been an active critic of the President, and he even toyed with the idea of running as Representative Patrick Murphy Lt. Governor if he had chosen to enter the gubernatorial race. Murphy is also a former Republican, and both Jolly and Murphy have dedicated the better part of the year to a countrywide bipartisan townhall where they’ve discussed their views on why they think there’s been a congressional gridlock.

Congressman Ron DeSantis has not commented on the matter.
