Anna Eskamani Calls Lindsey Graham's Iranian Comment Xenophobic

Senator Elizabeth Warren has drawn controversy over the years for remarking that she’s native American because of having some native American heritage, and she has received criticism from various political figures.

 Some have argued that she has used it to her advantage to get ahead in life and, in a new commercial highlighting her heritage, people around her detail that it has not been a topic of discussion in terms of her employment.

On an interview with Fox & Friends, Senator Lindsey Graham commented on information divulged in the advertisement.

Co-host Steve Doocy asked Graham, “Why don't you come back in a couple of weeks and we’ll take a look, we’ll find out who you really are.” And, Graham responded, “I'll probably be Iranian. That'd be, like, terrible.”

In response to his comments, Democrat Anna Eskamani, who’s currently running for state House District 47 against Republican Stockton Reeves in Orlando and Winter Park, is blasting Senator Graham’s comments as xenophobic.

In a statement, Eskamani said that “As the daughter of Iranian immigrants who worked tirelessly to achieve the American dream, I can tell you that being of Iranian heritage is not terrible.”

Eskamani also added that “What is terrible is U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and his xenophobic comments that are fueled by Republican leadership each day in an effort to scare voters and divide us. Enough is enough, we are a nation of immigrants and it’s about time Republican leadership stop race-baiting and furthering xenophobic policies that fuel a hateful agenda.”

In addition, it’s reported that the President of the National Iranian American Council, Jamal Abdi, commented on the matter, saying that “If you dread the notion of Iranian ancestry and believe all Iranians are liars, you are hopelessly bigoted and unfit to serve in the U.S. Senate where votes affect tens of millions of Iranians and millions more of Iranian ancestry in the diaspora.”
