Nelson leads Scott by 7 points in latest poll

The most recent Quinnipiac University poll conducted in Florida’s contentious U.S. Senate race between Senator Bill Nelson and Gov. Rick Scott, is raising quite a bit of eyebrows.

Nelson’s 7-point advantage over Scott is interested to say the least, considering that Scott has led in just about every poll conducted in the race since June.

Scott has been hammering Nelson on his voting record, being in politics for over 40 years, his missed committee assignments, and his lack of presence in both Washington and on the campaign trail.

All of Scott’s ads have been effective, but somehow Nelson is leading in the polls (Leads by 1.1% in the average of all the polls). The latest NBC/Marist poll also has Nelson up, but only by 3 points.

The only explanation for Nelson’s uptick in the polls is Andrew Gillum’s rise in popularity since winning the August primary election.

Gillum’s win most-likely injected much-needed life support into Nelson’s all-but non-existent senatorial campaign.

It is still early, and many more millions of campaign dollars have yet to be spent on either side.
