Gillum Talks Stricter Gun Control in Broward

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum campaigned in Broward County this weekend where he stressed the need for tighter gun control. He backed his support for this by showcasing an endorsement from Every Town for Gun Safety Action Front, a gun-control group.

In addition, Mayor Gillum also highlighted the support of Sheriff Scott Israel, the controversial Sheriff that has received heavy criticism for what detractors say is his lack of leadership during the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that took the lives of several students in February of this year.

Most recently, Andrew Pollack criticized Mayor Gillum’s acceptance of money and support from Israel in a statement. Sheriff Israel also campaigned with the Mayor.

However, Sheriff Israel was praised by Gillum who told Plantation reporters that “Sheriff Israel is the elected Democratic sheriff of this town. I'm happy to accept support from individuals who mean our communities good, mean them well. Anything short of that is simply a distraction."

And, speaking on Andrew Pollack’s criticism, Gillum commented that “I'm never going to push back on a grieving father. You have family members who are still very much trying to understand, and are grieving the loss of their children. They ought to be given space to do that outside of a political show."
