"Florida First" vs. "Draining the Swamp"

The race to replace Florida Governor Rick Scott is on and both Democratic and Republican gubernatorial candidates have taken off the gloves in their respective primary election races.

Democrats Gwen Graham, Philip Levine, Chris King, and Andrew Gillum are making their cases as to who is the most liberal, and would best represent their political party’s base of support.

Republicans Bob White, Rep. Ron DeSantis, and AG Commissioner Adam Putnam, are also putting their efforts forward to win over the coveted Conservative grassroots base of the GOP in Florida.

And then there are the Trumpsters.

DeSantis has received the support from President Donald Trump and he is making sure that everyone knows about it.

The three-term member of the U.S. House of Representatives has put out a “drain the Tallahassee swamp” mailing taking on the Clintons, George Soros, and former Governor Charlie Crist. As one would expect, the advertisement features a picture of DeSantis standing with his family and the Trumps at the White House.

Trump will be holding two rallies in Florida to support DeSantis later this year.

But don’t count the home-grown Putnam out just yet. Putnam’s “Florida First” campaign appears to be resonating with Republicans and Independents, who believe that the person best suited to represent the state needs to be familiar with it.

Putnam has accused DeSantis of “dialing it in” and campaigning from Washington while he has been on the ground pressing the flesh.
