With the recent tragic school shooting in Parkland that left 14 students and 3 teachers dead, lawmakers from across the country have banded together to call for more restrictive gun control legislation and safety measures.

The Florida legislature is caught up in an epic gun control debate that where even the Republican-controlled House of Representatives is at odds over how to handle gun legislation.

Orlando area Congresswoman Val Demings (R), who supports a ban on "assault weapons" and for stricter gun control measures, took to the House floor and delivered a passionate case in favor of more restrictive gun measures.

"Every American should have the right to go to school, to go to church, to go to a mall, to go to a movie theater or a night club without being brutally murdered by someone with a gun"
