Rep. Lawson: Let's get DACA done, it's a "no brainer"

Legalizing DACA kids in 2018 would turn out to be the one issue that either continues to divide the nation, or brings it together.

After President Trump announced that he would scrap President Obama’s DACA executive order and kick the issue over to the U.S. Congress, it looked as if a political party line immigration fight would take hold.

In a way it has, as Democrats have force a government shutdown because Republicans would not include language to the DACA proposal that addressed immigration reform in its entirety. Both Republicans and Democrats want to help DACA kids and their parents, but some Democrats want to see more done for all illegal immigrants residing in the U.S.

Rep. Al Lawson (D-FL) recently told The Floridian that he believes  getting DACA done was a “no brainer” but that those “Dreamers should not be tied to border security,” adding that the president said Mexico was going to build the wall and the U.S.

Lawson questions why funding for ‘the wall’ was part of the $25 billion appropriated for border security.

"In Congress, on both sides of the aisle, there’s no need to kick the can down the aisle anymore, everyone would like to resolve this issue, America is a country of immigrants,” said Lawson, adding that DACA kids were already Americans.

Lawson’s good friend and colleague in the House, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) , believes that the president’s immigration proposal is a “big deal” and said, “something that some of us have been working on and dreaming about for a long time.”

Will those 800,000 or so DACA kids and their parents have they voices heard without anymore political grandstanding by members of congress?
