With the government shutdown, over with (for now), Democratic members of the U.S. Congress continue to press President Trump and Republicans to pass comprehensive immigration reform alongside DACA legislation that would give some 1.8 million children permanent immigration status.
President Trump says that DACA will get done, but says that funding for his “Wall” will also have to be addressed, if Democrats wanted to see anything on the DACA front get accomplished.
Republican Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, a huge supporter of comprehensive immigration reform and DACA, issued a statement praising Trump for being “focused” on trying to help those kids that were brought to this country illegally at no fault of their own.
“It is clear that the President is focused on finding a permanent solution for these 1.8 million young adults who were brought to the United States at no fault of their own, as well as securing the border. This administration is putting forward a serious proposal to both of these issues, something that cannot be said of previous administrations. I will continue working with my congressional colleagues and the White House on a legislative solution that will pass both chambers and be quickly signed into law.”-Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R)
