Former Florida Sen. Democratic Leader Lauren Book shared a campaign ad associating her fight as a mother in a bid for a return to Tallahassee in Senate District 30.
"When you're a mom, you don't stay quiet when something's wrong. From the ring to the mat. I'm Lauren Book, and I fought like a mother in Tallahassee," Book says in the advertisement released on social media.
"Protected children from predators. Took on the gun lobby and won, but there's still more to do," Book continues. "Protect access to reproductive rights and make things cheaper by taking down home insurance and health care costs. To win in Tallahassee, you gotta fight like a mother, and that's what I'll do as your senator."
Book expanded on her accomplishments in the Florida Legislature on the post.
"I’ve done it before: I fought to successfully eliminate the sales tax on baby diapers and adult incontinence products, expanded Medicaid coverage twice for new mothers and babies, and worked to lower prescription drug costs for seniors," Book wrote. "I also passed some of the nation’s toughest laws protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation, cracked down on human trafficking, and expanded mental health support for Florida’s schoolchildren and first responders."
Book served as Leader from 2021 to 2024 and eight years in the Senate representing part of Broward County. She shared some of her plans if elected to SD 30 in an exclusive interview with The Floridian earlier this year.
SD 30 covers Broward and Palm Beach Counties in South Florida. Book is looking to replace Sen. Tina Polsky (D-Boca Raton) in the seat after she decided to not seek re-election.
Sen. Polsky has served SD 30 since 2022. She previously represented Senate District 29 from 2020 to 2022.
If history is any indicator, Book has a good chance of succeeding Polsky in the election.
Polsky defeated Republican William Reicherter by 11 points in the 2022 general election.
Book is facing Republican candidate Hector Rivera on Nov. 3.
