With less than two months until the 2026 midterm elections, President Donald Trump and the Republican Party have ramped up their campaign efforts to secure Republican control of Congress for the remainder of his term.
The Republican National Committee’s (RNC) first-ever midterm convention, nicknamed “Trump-a-palooza,” kicked off its two-day event on Sept. 9, 2026, in Dallas.
Trump Promises $5,000 Checks If Republicans Succeed
During his speech, President Trump emphasized the importance of the upcoming election, guaranteeing Americans a “dividend” check if Republicans keep control of Congress.
“If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000,” President Trump told the crowd.
“This is the most important election of your lives,” he added, urging voters to pretend “I’m on the ballot.”
After the president’s speech, Vice President JD Vance clarified the president’s promise, arguing the funds would not go to the wealthy and that it could be paid using U.S. tariff revenues.
Previous Promises of Dividend Checks
President Trump’s statements echo his previous promise in 2025, when he also promised dividend checks to Americans, also paid for by tariffs.
"People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!... We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion… A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump Believes Iran War Will End Right After Midterms
Before heading to Texas, President Trump also told reporters that he believes the conflict in Iran would end as soon as the midterm elections ended.
“I think the war will end immediately after the election, because they can’t hold out any longer,” President Trump said.
U.S. Officials Argue Iran War Lasts Until 2028
According to U.S. officials, however, top White House advisers reportedly informed President Trump, VP Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the conflict could drag on for the remainder of his presidential term.
President Trump’s claims echo similar sentiments he made during his 2024 presidential campaign run, where he promised to end the Russia-Ukraine war in the first 24 hours upon taking office.
