President Donald Trump threatened to cut trade with certain U.S. trading partners if the Federal Reserve didn’t lower interest rates.
“LOWER THE RATE OR I’LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT, which the U.S. Supreme Court, in its ridiculous and very costly Tariff decision, strongly acknowledged, ‘the President’ has an absolute right to do,” President Trump asserted on Truth Social. “A STRONG COUNTRY MEANS A LOWER INTEREST RATE – IT’S A BETTER CREDIT… Very simple! We should have the LOWEST RATE of any country in the World, like ‘the old days.’”
President Trump’s calls to lower interest rates come after the U.S. Department of Labor’s employment report showed that 162,000 jobs were added in August 2026 – triple economists’ estimates.
Department of Labor Reports 162,000 Added Jobs in August
According to the report, the total number of non-farm jobs rose by more than the average monthly gain of 31,000 over the past 12 months.
Economists surveyed by stock market index tracker Dow Jones had expected overall hiring to hit 53,000 positions and a steady unemployment rate.
Employment in food service and drinking places rose significantly, with 59,000 jobs added – nearly a 5x increase from the average of 12,000.
Additionally, the Labor Department confirmed that the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1%, with 7 million people currently unemployed.
“Great jobs number just announced, breaking all estimates (except mine!) by double and triple – And you haven’t seen anything yet!” President Trump celebrated.
Florida Lawmakers Celebrate The Milestone

“Thank you, [President Trump], for fighting for hardworking American families!” Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) celebrated on X. “A good-paying job is the key to living the American Dream. Congress needs to get on board and do everything in our power to cut big-government regulations and spending so our economy can keep thriving!”
