Social media platform X recently discovered that hundreds of thousands of fake accounts on its platform, controlled by U.S. foreign adversaries, were involved in attempting to manipulate American public opinion.
“The X Safety team conducted an investigation into suspected Chinese inauthentic accounts involved in influence operations,” the X Global Government Affairs account wrote. “We identified a bot farm of approximately 200,000 accounts. Within this farm, we found 200 accounts posting in a manner that could manipulate a legitimate debate about American AI [(Artificial Intelligence)] and energy policy.”
Bots Attempted To Influence Opinion On Data Centers
In one of the posts, a user argued that electricity costs will be passed on to consumers through their electric bills.
Another example showed an AI-generated image depicting “data-center operators enriching themselves at the public’s expense,” the Government Affairs account showed.
“We remain committed to maintaining an open and authentic platform where people debate topics of public interest,” X affirmed.

FL Lawmakers React To The Discovery
Several Floridian lawmakers reacted to the report, accusing foreign adversaries of deliberately attempting to divide the American population.
“China and our adversaries are running multiple psyop operations through American platforms in order to foment division among Americans. And it has been working,” Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) wrote on X.
“X revealed it uncovered a Chinese bot farm of roughly 200,000 accounts. Bots are a problem, and the divide that you’re seeing in this country is largely manufactured by foreign adversaries like China,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) affirmed on X.
Are The Bots Manufacturing Or Capitalizing Off The Discourse?
AI Data Centers and their impact on the American public have become one of the biggest bipartisan issues in 2026 and amid the 2026 Midterm elections.
Lawmakers and Americans on both sides of the aisle have expressed their concerns for their communities, public lands, living expenses, and quality of life as a result of these centers.
The question at large, however, is whether these operations are the root of the huge pushback against these developments or if they’re capitalizing off of the discourse.
