Congressman and Florida gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds (R-FL) slammed Democratic opponent David Jolly after he was endorsed by progressive Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost through a campaign release this week.
The release, which referred to Jolly as "pretty far left," shared Congressman Frost's past posts on "X" lashing out at Gov. Ron DeSantis and support of far-left positions on transgender rights and illegal immigration. The correlation is likely an attempt by Rep. Donalds to paint Jolly as too radical for the state of Florida, which has become increasingly conservative over the last decade.
"Protect trans kids and abortion and “fu** Ron DeSantis” are all correct," Frost wrote in April 2023.
"Sitting in a bigoted hearing where one of my colleagues is consistently referring to immigrants as “aliens," Frost said in April 2024. "Disgusting. My blood is boiling."
Congressman Frost endorsed Jolly following a recent campaign event this week. A Gen Z Democrat, Frost has represented District 10 in Central Florida since 2023.
“Pretty far-left David Jolly and Maxwell Frost are a perfect fit for each other. They represent today’s Democrat party platform: gender isn’t real, trans people need abortion care, and illegal immigration is encouraged. Jolly and his campaign are too far left for Florida, and Byron Donalds will beat them soundly in November," Byron Donalds Communications Director Gates McGavick said.
Frost also wrote a post criticizing the state of Florida for mandating biological gender on state drivers' licenses.
"Last week, Florida banned folks from being able to change gender on driver licenses. Moreover, they said that "misrepresenting" gender, aimed at trans/non-binary people, constitutes a "criminal and civil" fraud," Frost said in April 2024.
In addition, Frost pushed back on former Vice President Kamala Harris for telling migrants to not travel to the U.S.-Mexico border in an effort to enter the country, calling her suggestion "sad" in a post from June 2021.
"This system has taken a child of immigrants, and put her behind the podium to demand that folks not come to our country," Frost wrote. "I appreciate some of the good things this administration has done, but we must do better. Not just for our sake, but for humanity’s."
The presumptive Democratic nominee, Jolly will likely face Rep. Donalds, Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, or businessman James Fishback in the general election on Nov. 3.
