Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-FL) announced his endorsement of Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Jolly for governor during a recent speaking event posted on social media this week.
"Something else we get the opportunity to do this November is elect a Democrat to the governor's mansion and elect a Democrat to be lieutenant governor of this state," Frost said.
Gwen Graham is running with Jolly for lieutenant governor. Notably, both the governor and lieutenant governor run on the same ticket in Florida.
"We have two amazing individuals, two people who know this state, who have served this state, two people who are listening to the people as they've traveled this entire state," Frost continued. "They are putting together their platform of what they're going to fight for. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen this election because people are tired of what's going on in Tallahassee and Washington D.C."
Congressman Frost, a progressive Democrat, represents District 10 in Central Florida. He is also currently the only Gen Z member of Congress, possibly giving Jolly a major boost with young Floridians in the governor's race.
Jolly, the presumptive Democratic nominee, thanked Congressman Frost for his endorsement.
"Florida deserves a new generation of leadership focused on solving problems instead of fueling division," Jolly wrote. "Thank you to Congressman Maxwell Frost @MaxwellFrostFL for your endorsement and your partnership in this campaign. Together, we’re building a coalition that’s bigger than party because Floridians are ready for affordable housing, lower insurance costs, better schools, cleaner water, and leadership that puts people first."
Frost's support follows other recent endorsements for Jolly, which include Sens. Shevrin Jones (D-Miami Gardens) and Brian Nathan (D-Tampa), Rep. Emily Gregory (D-Jupiter), and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. Jolly has also been endorsed by the Florida AFL-CIO and the Florida Education Association in the race.
The primary is Aug. 18, with the general election on Nov. 3.
