Rep. María Elvira-Salazar (R) and Sen. Rick Scott (R) are pushing a new resolution that condemns socialism as a failed ideology.
This resolution comes after heavy criticisms toward Democratic New York State Representative Zohran Mamdani’s “socialist” policies and the Republican fear that he may win the mayoral election in the state.
"History is clear: from Stalin’s gulags and Cambodia’s killing fields to Castro’s firing squads in Havana, socialism has always ended in misery, suffering, and death,” Salazar said in a press release.
Salazar declared her dedication to toppling socialist ideologies and warned that socialism only leads to collective tyranny, shared poverty, and human misery.
“Entire nations have been destroyed and millions of lives shattered, including many in my own community in Miami who fled its brutality,” she added.
As Salazar heads the resolution in the House, Rick Scott is leading the companion resolution in the Senate.
“Socialism is a failed ideology -- it has destroyed countries, crushed economies, and robbed millions of their basic human rights," Scott said.
“Just look at Cuba and Venezuela, or talk to any of the thousands of families in my state of Florida who fled those regimes after evil dictators stripped them of every opportunity. Time and time again, socialism has led to the same, inevitable outcomes: misery, poverty, and oppression,” Scott continued.
The Senator argued that it is “despicable” that far-left politicians are villainizing capitalism and are pushing for the adoption of socialist ideology, which he argues is antithetical to the common beliefs of the U.S.
“The United States was built on individual freedoms and opportunities, and the right of every individual to pursue the American Dream despite coming from nothing, just like I did," he concluded, noting that the "resolution is a stark reminder for the far-left: socialism is a failure and Americans will always reject it.”
House Democrats blocked the resolution in 2023, voting 328–86 against it.
