After President Donald Trump endorsed Rep. Byron Donalds' gubernatorial campaign, Republican lawmakers began to openly express their support for the popular congressman from Southwest Florida, including Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R), who called him "an America First and Florida First patriot."
“Byron Donalds is an America First and Florida First patriot. As Governor, Byron will work with President Trump to protect our state from illegal immigration, lower the cost of living, and improve the quality of life for our seniors and veterans. I am proud to endorse my friend Byron Donalds for Governor," said Rep. Luna in a statement that The Floridian has obtained.
Rep. Luna's endorsement comes on the heels of that of Senator Rick Scott, who endorsed Donalds in early August.
On February 20, several hours after the news broke that Gov. Ron DeSantis was actively calling donors, asking them to hold off on donating to Donalds, President Trump unexpectedly and surprisingly announced his endorsement for Donalds.
Donalds was completely caught off guard and was pressed to move up his campaign anouncement.
The latest campaign finance report shows that the Friends for Byron Donalds committee has raised $20,469,781.72
