Florida Congressman Mike Haridopolos (R) made a statement in an interview with NewsNation supporting President Trump’s desire to cut federal interest rates, citing “the consumer deserves a break.”
Rep. Haridopolos argued that the concept of slashing interest rates isn’t a far-fetched ordeal, stating, “it's not a radical concept because they're doing it in Japan. They're doing it; the E.U., the U.K., all major nations are cutting interest rates right now because they know the consumer deserves a break. As you saw just last week, there was a split with the fed. They said that, hey, a couple of governors said we should be reducing rates, and when we only got that jobs report back at shows, we should probably reduce rates to help folks out.”
Haridopolos also asserted that Trump’s tariffs are “a winning strategy” that will serve to foster U.S. economic growth alongside the interest rate cuts, ultimately succeeding in bringing prices down after “four years of higher prices.”
This interview comes shortly after the resignation of Fed Governor Adriana Kugler, who was appointed to the position by the Biden administration in 2023.
According to the Trump administration, Kugler’s resignation is in response to the Fed’s stalemate on interest rates, with President Trump claiming that current Fed Chairman Jerome Powell is “too stubborn” for not slashing short-term interest rates quickly enough.
President Trump would later make a statement using Kugler’s resignation as a way to pressure Powell to submit his resignation.
“Powell should resign, just like Adriana Kugler, a Biden Appointee, resigned. She knew he was doing the wrong thing on Interest Rates. He should resign, also!” Trump said.
Haridopolos made a statement urging the Fed to “stop playing defense and start helping middle-class Americans by lowering interest rates!” because “The American economy is GROWING!”
