Florida Reps. Berny Jacques (R-Seminole) and Chase Tramont (R-Port Orange) filed a bill Thursday that would safeguard the integrity of the state's electoral system while ensuring the opportunity for eligible voters to participate.

“Florida’s elections are for Floridians—period. This bill defends our sovereignty by ensuring that only citizens have a voice in our state’s future. We won’t let foreign influences or fraudulent voters undermine our way of life," Jacques said in a press release.

Berny Jacques and Chase Tramont, under HB 831, would require state-issued identification cards that clearly denote non-citizen status while reinforcing citizenship verification requirements for voter registration.

It also would authorize the Department of State to utilize all available data sources to safeguard citizenship, which the bill says will ensure that only eligible citizens are allowed to vote in Florida's elections and in both cases enhance the accuracy and security of the voting process.

"Voting isn’t just a civic duty; it’s a right earned by those who have a stake in this state," Jacques added. "With this bill, we’re protecting our heritage, our values, and our communities. Florida belongs to Floridians, and we’re making sure it stays that way"

The legislation comes as state and national Republicans have ramped up efforts to combat illegal voting, specifically by illegal aliens.

“Secured elections are the central component to maintaining our Republic. It is essential that we continue to be vigilant and proactive in protecting the integrity of our ballots. American citizens should be the only voters in American elections," Tramont said.

If passed, HB 831 would take effect on July 1.
