The City of Miami Mayor Francis Suarez (R) has been the political punching bag for every media outlet in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, especially the Miami Herald.

While Mayor Suarez has not made it easy on himself by engaging in some questionable business dealings, offering much political fodder for his opponents and media outlets to attack him on, the Herald appears to be laser-focused on him and appears to have skated by other elected officials who have cast a cloud of doubt over their respected office or political campaign.

Enter Miami Beach’s Democratic Mayor Steven Meiner.

Mayor Meiner, who worked as an attorney for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), is under investigation by the agency for allegedly sexually harassing three former SEC employees, “including two former interns.”

“Before Meiner was elected mayor, the Herald reported that three former SEC employees, including two former interns, claimed he had made unwelcome advances toward them when they worked together. The ongoing human resources probe represents an escalation of concerns about Meiner’s behavior toward women at the SEC. According to eight current or former employees, those concerns have been quietly discussed for years among workers at the agency but seemingly never resulted in discipline,” reported the Herald on the allegations against Meiner.

While the Herald reported this story on Meiner, Mayor Suarez has been the subject of at least 70 articles, which cast him in a negative light, including one alleging he is under FBI investigation.

The Bureau never discloses if someone is under investigation or not. Leaks do occur, but there is no direct confirmation from the FBI.

Could the Herald’s coverage of Suarez be politically motivated because he is Republican and supports President Donald Trump?

Maybe, maybe not.

Either way, Mayor Meiner’s alleged sexual misconduct against several former employees is a big deal.

Will the Herald step up its coverage on Meiner?
