The rivalry between Anthony Fauci and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is not over. Governor DeSantis has just announced that when he is elected president, he would prosecute Fauci.

It’s no surprise that Fauci is persona non grata with Republicans, but criticism against him appeared to have died down since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite months of steering clear from the media, Fauci is back in the spotlight.

In a message sent to supporters, Governor DeSantis shared that “when the country lost its mind during COVID, when common sense suddenly became an uncommon virtue, Florida stood as a citadel of freedom and a refuge of sanity not only for our citizens, but for people throughout this country.”

Calling Fauci a “bureaucrat,” DeSantis highlighted that he Florida remained open when other states were closing, “and we ended up booming like never before.”

Governor DeSantis and Fauci have been embroiled in an intense rivalry with DeSantis pushing back against Fauci’s COVID-19 suggestions. DeSantis opposed mask mandates and vaccine mandates, and this cause DeSantis to vocally oppose him.

In the message, DeSantis notes that Florida “fought back against elites who wanted to plunge society into lockdown dystopia,” adding that the state “bucked Fauci, we bucked the establishment, and we will do this nationwide when I’m President.”

He goes on to explain that “Anthony Fauci forced Americans to stay locked inside their homes and out of work, locked children out of school, demanded masks on their faces, forced them to get COVID jabs, and lied before Congress.”

Because of this, DeSantis is vowing to prosecute Fauci over his involvement during the pandemic.

“Fauci has committed criminal offenses and the lack of accountability he has faced is dangerous,” said DeSantis, saying that if he had been president in 2020, “Fauci would have been fired.”
