Just a month after apologizing and assuring that he will be respecting womens’ personal space, Vice President Joe Biden is under fire for telling a 10-year-old-girl that she’s “good-looking” and placing his hands on her shoulder while taking questions from the press.
On Tuesday, the former Vice President held a 2020 Campaign rally in Houston, Texas, and the girl asked Biden a question regarding the divisive state of the country.
Responding to the question, Biden highlighted the United States’ immigrant heritage and told the girl, “I bet you’re as bright as you are good-looking.”
The girl then informed the former Vice President that her favorite subject is journalism, so Biden took her to the back of the room and showed her the press area, placing his hands on her shoulders.
Before formally announcing that he would make a run for the Presidency, Biden faced numerous accusations of sexual harassment. He was accused of invading personal space, making women feel uncomfortable from unwanted physical contact, and he’s facing new criticism after what transpired on Tuesday.
In early April, Biden released a video commenting that he would be “much more mindful” of “personal space.” This video was largely seen as a move to quiet down the the "Creepy Uncle Joe" reputation he had developed throughout the years.
In the video, Biden noted that “social norms are changing. I understand that, and I’ve heard what these women are saying.”
Continuing, Biden informed that politics “has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future.”
He called it his responsibility, and that he will make sure to meet it.
Biden’s campaign has not commented on the criticism, and Biden is currently leading in the polls when compared to the other Democratic candidates.
