When he was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Florida Congressman Alcee Hastings (D) expressed his concern over finding out he had the disease, and wondered if he would survive it.

Months later, and after a continued and aggressive treatment plan, Hastings is now very confident that he will “beat this bastard.”

During a recent Florida congressional caucus meeting to address the state’s ongoing toxic water issues, Hastings, who was carrying his treatment in a black medical pouch, updated his colleagues and attendees of his condition.

Hastings said that his doctors said that the cancer was “quiet” and hand not “metastasized.”

If anyone’s going to beat this bastard, it’s going to be me.”- Rep. Alcee Hastings (D)
