Appearing this past weekend on MSNBC’s “Politics Nation” with Rev. Al Sharpton, Rep. Charlie Crist, who is running for governor of Florida, stated that Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to be “Dictator of the Universe” and is intoxicated with running for President.
“He wants to be Dictator of the Universe. It's unconscionable the kind of or the lack of leadership that he's providing my state,” said Rep. Crist.
Historically, Florida has been the ultimate “swing state” with all recent presidential elections having been decided by how Floridians vote.
But since President Donald Trump won his election in 2016 and Gov. Ron DeSantis won his gubernatorial bid in 2018, not to mention the fact that Florida Democrats have drank the Progressive Democratic Kool-Aid, voter registrations in Florida have shown an undeniable increase in favor of Republicans.
DeSantis: Do you Want to be in Brandon's Party?
Gov. DeSantis is now calling Florida a red state, and the voter registration numbers appear to quantify his assertion, but Crist doesn’t buy it and says that the state is not leaning Republican.
“Florida is about a third Republican Rev, about a third Democratic, and about third Independent, and he thinks it's deep red,” said Crist. He’s, I think so intoxicated with the idea of becoming president of the United States, going to the White House, that he has forgotten the House of all the people that live in our state.”
According to the latest voter registration assessment by the Florida Department of Elections, since Gov. DeSantis became governor in 2019, Republicans went from a 230,000 voter deficit to being having a roughly 160,000 voting registration advantage over Democrats.
That is about a 440,000 (438,623) voter registration swing for Republicans.
By the time the dust settles in the 2022 midterm elections and all new voter registrations are counted, Republicans could be at a 200,000 registration advantage over Democrats, who now find themselves below 2018 voter registration levels by 20,000 registrations.
Advantage: Florida Republicans
