Florida Rep. Donna Shalala (D), who now faces a reelection battle with her 2018 rival Maria Elvira Salazar (R), continues to slam Republican leadership in the sunshine state.
Taking to Twitter to comment on how the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect Floridians, the Florida lawmaker expressed that “more than 10,000 people have now died in Florida from the coronavirus and Ron DeSantis still does not have a plan to get things under control.”
She concluded that “this is what failed leadership looks like.”

Rep. Shalala recently took to social media with a number of Democratic lawmakers to express that Florida should have a mask mandate, and the Florida lawmaker has also called for another shutdown to properly address the threat of the coronavirus.
When asked to elaborate on her thoughts regarding another shutdown, Shalala commented that the leadership "opened too soon and they misunderstood what you need to do, or they understand it and they're not willing to do it." Moreover, Shalala detailed that "in my district it's low-income minorities, Hispanics and African Americans, who are forced to go back to work for economic reasons and because their employers demanded they go back."
In noting her disappointment with the way Governor DeSantis has handled the pandemic in Florida, Shalala stressed, "I said four months ago if we don't do this right we're going to have to close down again."
"That's our worst nightmare and we're going to have to do that in Florida," she concluded over the weekend while speaking to Martha Raddatz.
