New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) took a jab at President Donald Trump for promising to mobilize the U.S. military to deal with the civil unrest, riots that have erupted over the past week since the death of George Floyd, saying that the president wanted to trivialize the death by making the situation into a “reality TV show of God and country.”
“The president wants to make it a reality TV show of God and country,” Cuomo said in an interview with CNN’s OutFront. “Call out the military and then I go to church and hold up a Bible. We understand who he’s trying to appeal to and the base he’s trying to rally with the military and believe of God and I hold the Bible, but that is not what is happening in this country today.”
Cuomo’s slight against the president hadn’t even dried yet before Trump delivered a body blow to the embattled New York governor when suggested that New York City needed to “call up the National Guard” to deal with the “lowlifes and losers” that were all-but burning down the city in a massive show of violent and destructive behavior.
NYC, CALL UP THE NATIONAL GUARD. The lowlifes and losers are ripping you apart. Act fast! Don’t make the same horrible and deadly mistake you made with the Nursing Homes!!!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 2, 2020
The NYPD is overwhelmed with the number of criminals on the street looting and damaging private property and could use the National Guard support to help restore the peace and protect property.
Trump then pour salt in the open would Cuomo has been “nursing” when he stated,” Don’t make the same horrible and deadly mistake you made with the Nursing Homes!!!”
Trump is referring to the March 25 debacle where Gov. Cuomo’s Health Department forced nursing homes to accept COVID-19 patients, which lead to the deaths of 5,000 to 7,000 elderly New Yorkers.
According to the New York Post, “The American Health Care Association called it a “recipe for disaster.” The Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths urged Cuomo to change course.”
Trump isn’t the only Floridian that has taken Cuomo to task. Sen. Rick Scott (R) recently dismantled Cuomo argument for New York State to receive federal bail out money, money that Floridians would have dish out.
“It’s irresponsible and reckless to take money from American taxpayers and use it to save liberal politicians like Cuomo from the consequences of their poor choices,” said Scott “Floridians shouldn’t have to backfill New York’s state budget and pension fund.”
